Born in 1958, Steve Kekana lost his sight at age 5 due to Trachoma but discovered his passion for music early. Inspired by Babsy Mlangeni, he began singing at 11 and joined the amateur group Hunters at Driekop in 1977 with the late Kgagudi. Discovered by talent scout and producer Tom Vuma, he won the SABC Black Music Award for Best Male Vocalist in 1979 and 1980. In 1981, he released his first English album, "Don’t Stop The Music," which doubled as the film soundtrack, and was named Radio Zulu’s Top Male Vocalist. With over 23 albums and 70 Gold Discs, Steve Kekana stands as one of South Africa’s most celebrated vocalists. He also holds Bluris and LLB degrees and authored a dissertation on copyright in music.
