Based out of Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand, Israel Starr is a multi Platinum & Gold artist. Israel's brand of authentic Roots Reggae, Funk and World music has meant Israel has been recognised with the most prestigious awards in Aotearoa including ‘Best Roots Artists’ at the NZ Music Awards and 2x recipient of ‘Best Reggae album’ at the national indigenous Maori Music Awards. Israel is also often looked to as a leading voice & historian for Reggae and Rasta culture in the Pacific being invited to speak and interview for shows including the latest 2023 documentary ‘When Bob Came’ ‘Israel’ (his given middle name)… and ‘Starr’ (short for Rasta) credits his musical talents to his upbringing in the ‘Twelve Tribes of Israel’ Rasta community. Growing up in the Twelve Tribes meant that he had the opportunity to learn hands on from the best musical legends, including Che Fu, Herbs, Chong Nee and his father the legendary Mighty Asterix. Israel is a child of soundsystem culture also which translates evidently in his authentic and wide ranging musical productions, live shows and knowledge. Israel has been producing some of the most outstanding and critically acclaimed music in the Pacific with leading music journalist Martyn Pepperall saying this about his latest Reggae album released in July 2022… "One of the most ambitious reggae and dub albums recorded in Aotearoa since the dawn of the 21st century."
